Does anyone actually REALLY enjoy football anymore?
West Ham of late has been a struggle and watching England last night was boring

what is going on? has the big money in the game finally killed off any connection with the working classes.

I just find it all brain numbing at the moment

when will the fun factor return?

PS this isn't a whoicide

Football is fun unless we lose then it's a bit sad.

I've got my memories of the real UP. I can't stand the gaff nowadays and won't be mugged off by the pimps for our final season there.

I'm an idiot, posting twice earlier shows that, dunno how that happened. When we move to the new stadium I'm probably gonna stop going, part of the reason I am one of the idiots who keeps paying at the moment is because I want to be at Upton Park for our last EVER season. I reckon I'm not the only one and the owners are playing on this big time.

Sold the idiots are not the club owners but the people who don't like football and still pay out to attend games.

Plus they are firmly in the mindset of theyre the greatest owners in the history of the club.

I think the real and only problem is BFS being as welcome at WH as a pork pie is at a Jewish wedding...

It's funny that so many of us clearly disillusioned with modern football but attendances are still going up...

I rarely watch any live pro football now but thoroughly enjoy watching my son play at U-19 Welsh League Academy level.

Proper football played by those who love the game - and at a decent standard. Not affected by money but still harbour dreams of 'making it'. No grief from oppo fans, good spirit (by and large) on and off the pitch, not too far to travel, free entry and you can enjoy a pint if you wish.

I find I only enjoy football after a few jugs these days. And even then it's mainly having a go at the opposition fans lol. The last game I was at I watched about 15 minutes of the match and the rest was the away fan bants

Re: Does anyone actually REALLY enjoy football anymore?
'm used to shit football but can't get used to anything else. The modern day chattering class West Ham 'fans' who infest UP are bland witless morons who I just can't relate to. I can't justify spunking up to £75 to line the pockets of mediocre multi millionaire mercenaries. I also dislike attending an event where you can receive a criminal record for singing or chanting something deemed politically incorrect by the neoliberal elite.
We still can't take alcohol to our seats either, or drink soft drinks from bottles with lids. We're still treated like scum despite the ridiculous ticket prices. I could list plenty of other reasons why I don't enjoy the experience any more.
The only good thing to come out of modern football is modern technology thanks to the Internet streaming meaning I can now watch every game live on the box in HD clarity at home whilst sticking 2 fingers up at the club, the Prem League and Sky/BT.

Nice piece that P son....

Another reason I reckon why people are falling out of love with the game is the devaluation of the cup comps... I mean when I look back and probably my fav 20 odd games watching us I'd say probably 15 or so are cup games (either FA, league or ECWC)... those were teh days that mattered... when everyone got up for it... I remember the feeling of quarter and semi final draws... the 20 a side games at school of West Ham v Arsenal fans... it was ALL about the cup comps... communities decking out their roads ... dressing their dogs up... a magical time...the league took care of itself... the Cups was where the real excitement was...

and now... not just us... but a vast majority it's fuck teh FA cup and all that it's fine history has stood for... it's weakened teams... and all about the 16th place finish in the league... my final straw was traipising up to Hillsbrough tio watch us in teh FA cup and after a week of Sam blasting out his love of the FA cup on Talk sport via Budweiser ads he then puts out a second rate team... in which we lost... so to me that was the final nail...

Re: Does anyone actually REALLY enjoy football anymore?
The amount of games you can watch does detract from it a bit IMO, when I was a kid, kick off was 3pm Saturday Afternoon, some mid week games that were due to Cup games or postponements but that was it so you really looked forward to it.

These days, there’s a Match most Saturday lunchtimes, the traditional 3pm, then a 5pm, then Sunday 2 or 3 games with different kick off times so they don’t clash, then Monday nights, plus mid week games and Cup Games that seem to be almost always mid week, then Champions league and the UEFA League, you very rarely get days without a game unless it’s a break for Internationals and that will go shortly IMO as the interest seems to be rock bottom, so I expect TV company’s will not be happy and they seem to dictate what happens these days, maybe these pointless friendlies will get dropped?

Re: Does anyone actually REALLY enjoy football anymore?
The amount of football on tv now takes the sense of occasion out of the game.

Simply over kill, blanket coverage and the fact the champions league can be won by a team finishing 4th in thier domestic league sums it up for me.

Its habit rather than anything else.
